Andrew Knives is a dynamic motion graphics artist based in Austin, Texas, known for his bold visual storytelling and innovative animation techniques. With a keen eye for design and a passion for bringing ideas to life through movement, he has worked on projects ranging from eye-catching commercials to immersive digital experiences.

His expertise spans commercial branding, music visuals, and interactive media, where he thrives on transforming abstract concepts into visually arresting motion pieces.

Here's some words he shared with us:

H+: How did you first become interested in pursuing a career as a visual artist?

Andrew Knives: From a young age, I’ve had a deep love for music. I was always drawn to the way certain sounds could create vivid images in my mind and tell stories without words. I’d find myself trying to capture those visuals, whether through drawing, experimenting in after effects, or creating abstract animations that mirrored the moods and tones I heard. Pursuing a career as a visual artist felt like a natural extension of that desire to give shape to the pictures that music painted in my mind.

H+: You've worked with some impressive brands, from Vogue, to Levi’s and even Billy Idol — what have been some of the proudest moments of your creative career so far?

Andrew Knives: To some extent I’m proud of just about every project I work on. Although I get really excited when I’m working on stage visuals for musicians and other artists. Going to see live music is something I really enjoy doing, and when the music is paired with a captivating stage visual, it really elevates the whole experience. I get really stoked seeing my work come to life on stage, alongside a musical act, and witnessing the audience’s reaction. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I helped create a special moment for someone.

H+: What are some influences or inspirations that contribute to your process & your work?

Andrew Knives: I’m really influenced by the 60s / 70s. The music, the psychedelic undertones to a lot of the advertising & animation, and the gritty & grainy texture that’s found during that time period really speak to me. I love when things look and feel handmade, and a lot of the work from that time has that feel. It feels real to me, especially in a time where everything now feels polished and clean. There’s something a bit more personal from the art from that era. Another massive influence on me and my work is music. I can hear a song and immediately be sent into a certain direction, creatively. If I’m ever feeling uninspired, creatively, I’ll just throw on a playlist, or explore some new music, and I’ll get back into the right headspace.

H+: How about your dream project, any opportunities to manifest & put into the universe?

Andrew Knives: 1 opportunity I am 100% manifesting is to have my work on the Sphere. I’ve done some larger scale, immersive shows, but that would be absolutely mental to see my work on that scale.

H+: What are 3 words you would use to describe your creative output?

Andrew Knives: Oneiric, uncategorized, and genuine.

H+: Do you BELIEVE in Aliens?

Andrew Knives: I believe that there are multiple planes that make up our reality. We physically live on one plane, while our subconscious / emotion ect exist on another. Each plane interacting in mysterious, unseen ways to form an intricate mosaic of all that exists. I’m open to the idea that “aliens” exist on one of those planes.
